Emergency Fund Planner
October 10, 2025 at 3:21:59 PM - ux, tools, emergency fund
-Rather than write a generic article about emergency funds, today we published a tool that aims to help readers quickly figure out how much they need to save and why choosing a traditional savings account will cost them both time and money.
Media Page
October 6, 2025 at 3:08:23 PM - data
In an attempt to make the insights Banksparency's dataathering generates available to more, a media page was launched with an embeddable widget.
-- Three indices were created; core (widely accessible), premier (high minimums), and relationship (higher rates with deeper banking relationship).

September 22, 2025 at 12:21:21 PM - savings-calculator, bugs

- Fixed a small bug in the savings calculator
Summer Camp Savings Calculator
September 17, 2025 at 8:19:26 AM - savings-calculator
Added a calculator with accompanying text about planning ahead for the increasing costs of summer camp, written by my wife Mara Fahl.
Savings calculator default and bank-to-bank comparisons
September 3, 2025 at 11:04:21 AM - savings-calculator, UX, UI, savings-comparisons
- Changed the main savings calculator default to feature the latest savings rates instead of a custom APY (which is now available as a secondary choice).
- Added 12 more banks to my bank-to-bank comparisons, for a total of 30 banks and 434 comparison pages.
Improved savings calculator
July 18, 2025 at 10:49:19 AM - savings-calculator, UX, data, QA
The savings calculator is now able to account for minimum balance requirements and various rate tiers or APY caps.
- While still an approximation, and my data doesn't include every tier for every savings account (usually the top and lowest tiers to give a range), this should make it easier to understand how much you will actually earn with a bank.
- It's particularly helpful on the Bank-vs-Bank pages which calculates and compares earnings for two banks simultaneously.
Glossary added / bank affiliation made more transparent / links
July 3, 2025 at 9:10:19 AM - transparency, UX
Realized that many HYSA terms may be unfamiliar to new visitors, we added a glossary in order to bridge this gap. You can find it under "HYSAs".
In addition, on individual bank pages we made some relationships between banks clear. For example, Openbank is a division of Santander Bank, so when a user visits either of them, the offering by the "affiliated bank" should also be made more visible.
Finally, on individual bank pages we've added an automatically generated randomized list of banks with either higher or similar APYs, to help users find the best rates.
Expanded comparison pages & component fixes
June 9, 2025 at 12:17:56 PM - data, bugs, mobile
Barclays was added to the Bank-to-Bank comparisons, which brings the total number of comparisons up to 78 (13 banks).
Fixed a bug on the FDIC table on the homepage to allow mobile users to scroll sideways to see all the data. Also set a min-width on the charts to avoid seeing compressed charts on small screens.
New search page and accessiblity
June 6, 2025 at 2:06:23 PM - accessibility, search
- Added a dedicated search page at
/search
with quick access from the header and footer.
- Search result pages are now excluded from indexing and include better metadata.
- Improved accessibility and page structure across the site.
- Fixed minor bugs and dependency issues affecting stability.
Fixed historical APY insights comparison
May 28, 2025 at 11:40:33 AM - data, QA
The historical APY insights on the bank-to-bank comparison pages were mistakenly written with the end-goal in mind, of serving a comparison up to one year. The feature was shipped without the necessary logic to determine how long the data for each bank in the comparison actually went back.
Today this logic was implemented; accounting for the length of the rate data and making sure all necessary fields and labels are updated dynamically.
New changelog page
May 28, 2025 at 11:10:04 AM - transparency
In order to increase transparency into the efforts to improve the site, more significant updates will be posted on the changelog.
